AeroMobile™ to Market In-Flight Cellular Solution for Business Jets
November 9, 2005
Annapolis, Maryland—AeroMobile™, the provider of the first
commercially available mobile cellular phone service for airline passengers,
today announced it plans to introduce mobile cellular technology for
the business aviation market. The company made its announcement at
the 2005 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) convention
in Orlando, FL.
AeroMobile will reconfigure its flight-proven commercial aircraft
system to meet the physical requirements of business aircraft, and
will market the technology globally. AeroMobile principals ARINC Incorporated
and Telenor expect world telecomm regulators to begin issuing approvals
for in-flight mobile cellular services starting from mid-2006.
“Business operators should have the same safe, cost-effective
and future-proofed solution we developed for the airlines,”
said Graham Lake, ARINC Vice President, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
“Following a highly successful launch in the commercial market,
we can bring AeroMobile to business aviation as a proven, mature system.
AeroMobile allows passengers to use their own cell phones in flight
just as they would on the ground.”
The AeroMobile on-board system integrates with classic Inmarsat satcom
services already found on many large corporate aircraft. It also will
integrate with the next generation of Inmarsat SwiftBroadband and
newer Ku-band broadband satellite services like ARINC SKYLinkSM. The
minimum Inmarsat configuration supports in-flight voice telephony
and SMS text messaging, while Swift64 and higher bandwidth enables
GPRS data services for BlackBerrys and PDAs, as well as higher overall
communications capacity.
Of special interest to fractional jet operators, calls are billed
to each phone user’s account. Calls are priced similarly to
international cell roaming tariffs. “We are already
in discussion with interested manufacturers and operators, and we
are confident this will lead to tests in the next few months,”
added Mr. Lake. “The business jet market is going through a
period of sustained growth, especially in Europe, and companies are
looking for ways to differentiate themselves.” More information
on AeroMobile is available at the ARINC Incorporated NBAA show booth
#3169, November 9-11.
