AeroMobile tells WAEA convention that its services are “ready to go”
Miami
, 10 September 2006 – AeroMobile, the market leading provider of commercially
available in-flight passenger communications services has announced (at the 27
th Annual WAEA convention) that it’s mobile (cell) phone and data service solutions
are “ready to go”.
All elements of AeroMobile’s system are now in their production form and currently
completing formal acceptance testing ready for the first customer installation
to start in mid-September. Service operations will commence as soon as the installation
work is completed and certification approval granted by airworthiness authorities.
Ed Montgomery, President AeroMobile, said: “Aircraft installation kits have been
produced, service bulletins covering the installation process written and certification
applications submitted to EASA for the first installation. Our ground infrastructure,
including GSM interconnect, billing and roaming systems, is fully operational
and we have a growing number of telecoms regulatory approvals and roaming agreements.
So AeroMobile really is ready to go – in-flight mobile communications are now a reality.”
AeroMobile has already received 11 regulatory approvals from national telecommunication
regulators for its service over countries including the
United Arab Emirates
,
Germany
, The Netherlands,
Belgium
,
Italy
,
Norway
and
Sweden
, and is continually adding to this list. AeroMobile is a member of the GSM
Association (joined March 2006) and roaming agreements with 47 mobile phone service
providers are now in place allowing AeroMobile calls to be billed directly to
those service providers’ customers. The number of AeroMobile roaming partners
continues to grow week-by-week.
AeroMobile’s ability to deliver services on a technically and commercially viable
basis is enhanced by the fact that it operates with all current and future aircraft
communication services. These include Inmarsat’s ‘Classic’ services installed
on over 1,900 airliners and the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband service which will become
operational in 2007 and when available will be used by AeroMobile for both long
haul and short haul applications.
AeroMobile is benefiting from proven facilities and expertise in live operations
with real users. Significant elements of AeroMobile’s ground telecoms infrastructure
is provided by Maritime Communications Partners (MCP) who already provide similar
mobile telephony services to the maritime industry. MCP is a subsidiary of Telenor
ASA.
An agreement with Panasonic Avionics Corporation means that AeroMobile technology
is now integrated in Panasonic’s market-leading in-flight entertainment systems.
AeroMobile is also progressing its relationship with Boeing Commercial Airplanes
to allow the AeroMobile system to be installed as an option on the aircraft production
line such as the Boeing 777. AeroMobile recently received the essential EN/AS9001
accreditation, a standard developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group
(IAQG), in support of the Boeing processes.
“When we started this project we knew we had to develop the aircraft hardware,
ground infrastructure, prove the systems, work through the regulatory requirements
and put in place agreements with key partners. We have now achieved all of these
actions, and AeroMobile is now ready to deliver services to airlines across the
world.” added Mr Montgomery.
AeroMobile plans to be in operation on two airlines within six months. In preparation
for these service launches significant work has been undertaken to tailor and
optimise the use of mobile phones by passengers on aircraft. The AeroMobile solution
includes a range of capabilities and procedures, which have been developed with
airlines and various agencies. The control these provide to airlines and their
cabin staff will allow the full benefit of in-flight communications to be realised
by all passengers and tailored to any particular requirements or situations, such
as night flights.
“Attitudes to in-flight communications are changing, and also reflect regional
variations around the world. We know we have a responsibility to ensure that any
concerns about perceived intrusion are managed and that the benefits of the service
to all passengers are maximised. A number of recent studies have shown that both
business and leisure passengers now understand the advantages of having voice
and data services on their flights, and we are confident that careful management
of the services will provide the on-board environment that they want.” concluded
Mr Montgomery.
AeroMobile is showcasing its services at the WAEA Annual Conference and Exhibition,
Miami Beach
Convention Center
, booth number 441 from 12th-15th September.
